About Bill Davies & Penny's Mill
About Bill
I moved to the West Country in the early '70s after several years in publishing, and spent the next six years as a freelance broadcaster, working for BBC local and national radio.
Owning a house encouraged me to design and build my first kitchen in 1973, and some people who saw it asked me to build one for them. I combined this with my radio work, then went full time into furniture in 1979. The rest, as they say, is history.
Penny's Mill
Penny's Mill is an attractive converted watermill over 200 years old, in the quiet, pretty village of Nunney, half an hour south of Bath. London is two or three hours, Bristol Airport just a quick sprint over the Mendips.
A few years ago I turned the tumbledown stable across the drive into my purpose-built design studio, where you're welcome to visit me - by appointment only, please.
I don't have a showroom, just lots of photographs and samples, and drawings of things I've done over the years. Penny's Mill is also where my wife Rosie runs her internationally-acclaimed cookery courses, particularly for yacht chefs.
